Our Summer Program
As teenagers, our lives can become packed with school, sports, and other activities, often to the point that we forget to pursue our creative interests. Challenge yourself to keep up with your passions this summer and join Ascension, our summer creativity camp. Over the course of six weeks, students from all skill levels with an interest in either writing, music composition, or art/photography will have the opportunity to network with and learn from like-minded peers who share their passion for innovation and individuality in a welcoming, engaging atmosphere.
Students will participate in two 1.5 hour meetings a week: a meeting with one's "guild," the group of students that share their creative interest of either writing, music composition, or art/photography, and a second meeting with one's "pod," a mixed group of students from different guilds and with different interests. In guilds, students will participate in workshops to improve and share their skills, and in pods, students will work together towards creating a multi-dimensional capstone project containing elements of writing, music, and art. Joining is a fantastic way to meet new people both with the same and diverse interests.
At the end of the six-week-session there will be a final meeting in which pod-mates will share their final presentation with the whole group during the end of program celebration. This program is great for people who would like to begin learning a new craft or grow their skills in interests they have already been practicing.

Writing and Music Composition
Hi! I'm Ava and I am currently a junior in high school. Throughout my experience with the Outlet, I have been able to practice and experiment with both writing and music composition and have learned so much from other members. My personal favorites styles of writing and music to create are poetry and choir music. I do want to give producing rap/r&b music a try too. Over this summer, I look forward to continue working with others and grow together; sharing and creating together are both activities that I really enjoy :D. I look forward to meeting you!
Austina Xu is a junior who lives in California. While her headshot may suggest the beginnings of a professional photographer in the making, in her free time, she is usually found drawing, procrastinating, chasing her cat, or all three at once. This may lead you to think that her photo is quite misleading. You are right. Her dislikes include bananas, the dark, and really hot days.
Hey guys! I’m Johnny, and I’m looking forward to working with you! Like Atri, I’m a junior in high school. I’ve dabbled in many different instruments, including piano, violin, bass, and more. I actually played the piano for around 8 years before focusing more on the violin in order to play in the school orchestra. However, I didn’t really start composing until I joined The Outlet, so I’m by no means an expert. However, I’ve certainly enjoyed being a part of The Outlet, and I’ve learned a lot! The Outlet provides an incredibly positive environment to share our love for the arts, and I think we’ll have lots of fun over the summer sharing our work with each other. For our pod, I’m hoping to give some (hopefully) helpful tips when it comes to the music-making process, sharing how to use MuseScoe and Cakewalk, and just generally making music with you all. See you soon!
I'm Luce Cada and I'm a current junior in high school. Writing has been a passion since I was young, especially short stories and poetry. This summer I'm looking forward to collaborating with other creative people and sharing ideas. I can't wait to meet new people through Ascension and create fresh pieces!
Hi everyone! My name is Atri, and I’m a high school junior. I play the piano and the trombone, and I began composing when I joined The Outlet at the end of my freshman year. The reason The Outlet is so awesome is that there’s a community of people who care about spending time on the arts. Especially when schoolwork becomes overwhelming, our meetings provide a needed break and time to relax. Over the summer, in our pod, I look forward to sharing my (top secret) methods of composition in free software like MuseScore or GarageBand. Also, I’m excited to listen to everybody else’s work and make friends :)
Hi! My name is Spencer and I am going to be one of the camp leader this summer. I have been doing art for over 6 years. My main medium is collage, but I dabble in all sorts of styles. My art has been featured in The Museum of Museums, Everyday Unboxed Gallery, Arata Art Gallery, Living Zine, A La Moda Zine, and NAGUzine. I have been a part of The Outlet Inspire for over a year and it has really inspired me to create not just more art but also to experiment with my style. This summer, I can't wait to facilitate that same growth in you guys!
