Fire
This week, the composers write around emotions evoked by the devasting Californian Wildfires.
Flames
Johnny Kuehnis
For this weeks prompt we decided to write about the fires that were going on in California. When writing this piece, I thought of how a fire seems to start out small, but spread quickly to something both menacing and enormous.
How the fires make me feel
Anika Pandey
This piece was inspired by the devastating fires two weeks ago. It is in a minor key and is relatively slow moving to give the effects of sadness/despair. I also used a lot of dissonance in the piece to give it a slightly unsetting feeling. This sums up my feelings of fear and agitation caused by the fires coupled with the coronavirus situation.
Rekindle
Stephen Xia
I originally wanted to do a full composition, but I decided to instead just make a very simple song because I felt that adding too many voices and layers would take away from the meaning of this piece. I wanted to capture the way that we recover from troubles, the support that we give each other, especially in hard times, and how life will eventually keep moving.
