Free week
This week, our composers take a trip back in time and feature their older, never-before-seen pieces.
Hiraeth
By: Johnny Kuehnis
This quartet piece was written about two months into quarantine. It represents my feelings of longing to see those who I am unable to at this time. The piece is in a minor, but has many sharps to add some flare.
I wrote this piece at the second "stage" of quarantine, when it was no longer a vacation, and I missed my friends at school. It took a more gloomy feel. From a composing perspective, I spent a large portion of time coming up with a musical idea, and I built the rest of the piece around the idea.

Journey Through Love
By: Ava Arasan
"Journey Through Love" is an SATB choral arrangment of four popular love songs from throughout history: "Killing Me Softly with His Song" by the Fugees, "Tale as Old as Time" from "Beauty and the Beast," "Moon River" by Henry Mancini, and "Countdown" by Beyonce. This being one of my first arrangments, I honestly didn't have a clue as to what I was doing, but I really enjoyed working on this piece, making harmonies, and listening to the final song.
