Workout
This week, the composers create motivating and animated pieces to help encourage fitness and mental/physical health.
Working In Progress
By: Richard Zhang ft. Austina xu and Johnny Kuehnis
Working in progress is a half-finished song featuring Johnny and Austina. I first asked Austina to give some very unmotivated phrases to act as the voice in the back of your head telling you to give up. Since I couldn't come up with my own lyrics for exercise, I asked Johnny to write the most fire lyrics that he could to respond to not wanting to work. The beat itself is fast and utilizes string staccatos to provide more tension and provide a rushing vibe.
For this week's piece, I wanted to compose a piece that was energetic and lively. Because I really don't have any experience producing workout music, to compose "Bop," I kept lunges in mind to help me maintain a stimulating and dynamic mood. Overall, this piece was both challenging and a lot of fun creating.

Rhythms
BY: Johnny Kuehnis
Making this week's piece, I was faced with a lot of challenges. I've never really done this style of music before, and coming up with the chords was a challenge. For the theme of "Workout Music", I tried to make some electronic/EDM music to try to make a song that would be fun to work out to. The rhythm was pretty important to me, as I tried to make the chords very stable in order to help with doing exercises in a good tempo. Overall, this week's piece was a challenge, but I'm happy that I got to experiment with a new style of music.
As you might guess from the name, this piece tries to help a plank go faster. I experimented with a non-traditional set of instruments (the violin, tuba, oboe, voice, and trombone). While listening, focus on one specific instrument until you’re tired of hearing it. Then, move on to the next one. By the time you have listened to all the instruments, your one extra minute of planking should be up :)
